Where Do Brown Spots Come From?
The coloring of our skin consists of melanin, a pigment that is created as a reaction to the sun’s UV rays. Melanin helps absorb and dissipate UV rays, and is the body’s natural response to sunlight. When you spend more time in the sun, heightened melanogenesis (production of melanin) occurs. This leads to brown spots and patches forming across your skin, but most prominently on the face, arms, neck, décolletage, and legs.
The sun is the number one factor in aging skin. We always recommend sun protection, but changes aren’t irreversible.
Comfortable Treatment for Age Spots
Exposing your skin to a different type of light will actually help remove brown spots. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments trigger skin cell renewal, and help the body naturally shed the additional pigmentation.*
During treatment, the target area is exposed to gentle pulses of light. Then, in the weeks after the procedure, the brown spots will gently flake off the skin. Different patients may require more or fewer treatments to see ideal results.*
