Brown Spots
Brown Spots & Hyperpigmentation Treatment Options
Sunlight may feel warm and relaxing, but it is one of the primary factors in premature aging. The sun’s UV rays are extremely damaging to the skin, and the less protected your skin is, the more likely you are to see brown spots and other pigmentation. Hyperpigmentation will occur on the areas exposed to the sun, which also tend to be the most noticeable areas of our skin (the face, neck and hands).
Why are brown spots appearing on my skin?
Our skin gains its color from a group of pigments broadly referred to as melanin. We’re born with a certain amount of melanin based on our genetics. Our skin then produces additional melanin when exposed to UV rays. Melanin absorbs and dissipates these rays, attempting to protect the skin from damage and skin cancer. But this also leads to heightened melanin production, which results in small to large brown spots and patches. They’re most likely to appear on areas commonly exposed to the sun, like the face, arms, neck, chest, legs and tops of the feet.
You may also be more likely to develop brown spots if you have particularly fair skin or are genetically predisposed to freckling.
Sun protection will help prevent future hyperpigmentation, but it won’t treat existing spots.
What is the best brown removal treatment?
The best brown spot treatment depends on factors individual to you, including your skin, your treatment goals, your budget, and the extent of your sun damage. A wide variety of treatment options will improve brown spots, some of them more comprehensive than others. We recommend scheduling a complimentary consultation to learn more about what we recommend.
At your consultation, we will perform a digital skin analysis to evaluate the sun damage present and establish a baseline for your future treatments. You’ll be able to look at images of the surface and deeper layers of your skin both before and after treatment, and immediately note the extent of the results.
We’re excited to offer our patients this unique digital skin analysis, and we encourage you to experience it for yourself to discover your ideal brown spot treatment option – schedule your consultation today.
