CoolSculpting is the procedure that safely freezes and eliminates stubborn fat. Many of us have stubborn fat despite diet and exercise. Coolsculpting technology uses controlled cooling to target and kill only these targeted fat cells, eliminating them for good.
Wondering where exactly the fat goes after Coolsculpting? You’re not alone!
How It Works
The Coolsculpting procedure safely delivers precisely controlled cooling to gently and effectively target the fat cells underneath the skin. Treated fat cells are crystallized (frozen), and then die. Over time, your body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells, leaving a more sculpted you.
Long-term effects of treatment
Coolsculpting causes apoptosis, which is the process by which the cells die. Once these cells die, they collapse and are naturally taken away by your body’s mechanism for removing dead cells.
To date, there are no long-term negative effects of Coolsculpting. The reason it only damages fat cells is that fat cells will freeze at a higher temperature than other tissues. The reason the other tissues such as skin, nerves, and blood vessels are not frozen at the same temperatures are that they are water-based.
The Coolsculpting device carefully controls the cooling process so that the temperatures achieved are such that only the fat will freeze, giving a very natural looking reduction without issues of lumpiness or hanging excess skin. Coolsculpting results are long term, and the treated fat cells are gone for good. Untreated areas will have no change in fat cell distribution.
CoolSculpting Safety
While there are several benefits to Coolsculpting, it’s important to be aware of the risks if you’re considering this procedure. In 2010, the FDA certified Coolsculpting as a safe medical treatment, and because of it’s nonsurgical, noninvasive and no recovery time approach, it’s quickly becoming one of the most popular ways for patients to eliminate stubborn fat.
What are the Risks?
Coolsculpting can cause several side effects and is not recommended for everyone. Common side effects include:
- Tugging sensation at the treatment site
- Pain, stinging or aching at the treatment site
- Temporary redness, swelling, bruising and skin sensitivity at the treatment site
- Paradoxical adipose hyperplasia at the treatment site
Keeping Fat Away After Coolsculpting
Once you’ve achieved your ideal shape, you want to maintain your investment in making your new shape last. While CoolSculpting destroys fat cells, new fat cells can always form if you don’t adjust your daily habits.
Make sure your body contouring sticks around by:
Getting on a Healthy Exercise Plan
CoolSculpting is ideal for those close to their target weight, so there’s a likelihood that you’re already exercising regularly, but if you’re not, regular exercise will help your body stay in its new form for years to come. Choose forms of exercise that focus on cardio and flexibility, and aim for 30 minutes of activity every day.
Eating Right
Fine tune your diet, and pay closer attention to the types of foods you eat on a regular basis. While CoolSculpting removes fat cells, it doesn’t change the way your body metabolizes food or burns calories. Getting into the habit of eating a healthy, well-balanced diet will help you establish a long-term pattern for your body.
